Trisomy 18 Fundraiser

November 30th, 2008

One of my mom’s colleagues has a family member who’s given birth to a child with trisomy 18:

The condition affects about 1 of every 3000 children; about 5-10% of such children live to one year. The family is holding an auction to help with medical expenses. If you are interested in the items, many of which are quite beautiful, you can bid for them on eBay. . . . Send it on to anyone who might be in a position to lend a hand.

The items include pottery, quilts, knitted items, jewelry, and much more. Many are handmade. There’s even a beautiful sapphire blue corset top — and a gorgeously knitted Baby Surprise jacket (Ravelry link).

Please go and take a look, and place some bids if anything strikes your fancy. The family is facing a lot of medical bills in the near future, and I’m sure the help would be appreciated — plus, you’d get some pretty cool stuff!

Edited to Add: The auction for some of the items ends December 2, so step on it if you want any of the things on offer!

Incidentally, sorry for my prolonged absence from the blog. I’ll do better. No, really — I mean it this time!
